Chuck De Nomolos, Rufus old teacher, hated the future utopian society. He wanted to go back in time and kill the great ones Bill and Ted and change his new society that he can rule with an iron fist. He created evil versions robots of them and go back in time and kill them. Bill and Ted just graduated from high school and they are struggling musicians three years later. They needed to win battle of the bands to marry the princess. If they win, 10 or 20 thousand dollars and a recording contract. Evil robots was successful of killing them, but they were resurrected when they challenge the grim reaper and won to go back.Īfter that, they built good robot versions of themselves by two scientist in heaven. The good robots destroyed the evil robots and De Nomolos tried to kill themselves and got world premiere to watch them die. But it backfired and De Nomolos is arrested and Bill and Ted won the battle of the bands to start their utopian society with their princesses and their children.

However, in the next sequel, Face the Music is a midquel series between the future of Bill and Ted's bogus Journey after the band split up and Death return to hell, it's revealed that they failed to create the utopian society. Now, they must team with their daughters, Whilelmina Logan (aka "Little Bill") and Theodora Preston (aka "Little Ted") to compose the song that will create the utopian society. If only "Excellent Adventure" which was made in 1988, was released THAT YEAR instead of 1989, and "Bogus Journey" was made quickly and released in 1989, then it too would have probably been just as wildly received as the first.Eventually, they suceed at composing the song, finally uniting the world in peace and harmony and the uptonian society is restored. 1991 was nothing like 1988 or 1989, whereas right now, 2002 and last year 2001 still looks/looked like 1995 or 1996. The transition from the '80s to the '90s was a much faster change then now with the '90s and '00s. "Gremlins 2" which also came out in the early '90s suffered a similar fate of being a good film that bombed at the box office because it was too associated with the '80s. Nobody but surfers were still saying stuff like "excellent!" and "bogus!" in 1991. Bill and Ted with their Ozzy Osbourne, Van Halen and Guns N' Roses music along with their '80s style seemed so out of place and very outdated in '91, and I think that's one BIG reason the film bombed at the box office. Even though the '80s were only a couple years ago back at that time, the landscape of the music and style for kids had changed so radically with gangsta rap, hip hop, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, grunge and the Seattle sound. In 1991, Bill and Ted already seemed "so '80s". I think the problem may be that this film was just released a couple years too late. "Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey" also bombed at the box office, whereas the first one was a pretty good hit and very popular. But the film was forgotten when it first came out, and became even more overlooked as the years passed. It's just plain fun and in my opinion this film tops the first one. It's highly imaginative, creative and clever.
